Had a really nice dinner to celebrate Derrick's belated birthday on Saturday at Mayflower. We originally planned to have the dinner at Royal China, a new Chinese restaurant, but it was fully booked. Got the number now, will call to book next time. People have been raving about the food.
There was 11 of us at the family dinner, Yanti & Flo came too. It was really nice. Derrick was a bit drunk. He had some drinks before dinner with his buddies at Monsopiad Cultural Village, where he works.
Went to Keningau yesterday morning to surprise dad and celebrate his birthday in advance (dad's birthday is today). Brought some smoked wild boar meat and loads of beer..(dad very pleased with the beer). Mama (my grandma) did not recognize me when she first saw me. Her memory has been failing her since last year, her health none the better. But she soon started chatting away, mainly about Akademi Fantasia out of all things..lol. I had no idea what she was talking about so she made me watch the programme instead. Interesting afternoon..lol.
Dad cooked the wild boar meat in spices and sweet soya sauce..so good. But then again, dad has always been a good cook. I ate so much my tummy ached.
We wanted to go back to KK before it got dark, so after saying our goodbyes, we left at about 5.30pm.
The drive home was not an easy one. It was dark and only one light was working. A bit scary with all the huge timber trucks on the road. We managed to reach KK in one piece after 2 hours of driving. Would have been able reach KK sooner if the road wasn't so bad. Potholes everywhere.
I have been thirsting for alcohol all day. So as soon as i touched base, called up my girls for some drinky at The Office. Had a good laugh with Yanti,Shan & Avril. Steve & Nick too..(enjoyed kickin' their ass at pool *wink*). And of course, thanks to Mr JD, i had a pretty good night..Steve, my bottle better still be half full when i go there this Wed..

For $82 a Day, Book a Cell in a 5-Star Jail

Fancy that!! You call this doing time ??!!
SANTA ANA, Calif., April 25 — Anyone convicted of a crime knows a debt to society often must be paid in jail. But a slice of Californians willing to supplement that debt with cash (no personal checks, please) are finding that the time can be almost bearable.
Many of the self-pay jails operate like secret velvet-roped nightclubs of the corrections world. You have to be in the know to even apply for entry, and even if the court approves your sentence there, jail administrators can operate like bouncers, rejecting anyone they wish.
“I am aware that this is considered to be a five-star Hilton,” said Nicole Brockett, 22, who was recently booked into one of the jails, here in Orange County about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles, and paid $82 a day to complete a 21-day sentence for a drunken driving conviction.
Ms. Brockett, who in her oversize orange T-shirt and flip-flops looked more like a contestant on “The Real World” than an inmate, shopped around for the best accommodations, travelocity.com-style. read more (New York Times)

about doggie..
DBKK guys came over..i was a little bit surprised..they actually DO their job!..(in between all their 'coffee breaks' i'm sure )..Well i am hoping the doggie's okay..all I know is that he's been taken away, hopefull to the vet. But i'm really not sure if they would go through all that 'trouble' here in Malaysia. The government doesn't want to foot the bill. (They would rather save the money to buy too many cakes & goodies that they have during their weekly lenghty 'meetings'..) What normally happens is if the dog has no owner / collar, they'd just put it down by shooting it. Just like that.Awful.
But saying that..the dog is probably better off in doggie heaven anyway..rather than suffer till he dies down in that drain...poor Mr Muggles..*sob*

Save the doggie, Save the World
A dog is yelping out in pain. Went up the step ladder to look over my back garden wall. A black dog is stuck inside the drain outside by the wall. Tried to help it get out but it started barking & growling. It looks like it's badly injured, probably been hit by a car.I think it's leg is broken, the poor thing. Gave it a bowl of water and some shade from the hot sun. I've called up DBKK to send some help over to get it out of the drain and do what's necessary. A very nice lady by the name of Maria assured me that she'll try and get someone over as soon as possible.I can't bear hearing the poor doggie yelping in pain any longer. :(
