Christmas in KK

with the Rugrats

1st Xmas party was at @mosphere hosted by Laynee. It was my 1st Xmas Breakfast Party. I am not a morning person and for me to be up and ready by 8am for a party is unheard of. By 10am I was already happily downing Cosmos with the girls and thinking that mornings are not so bad after all.

Celebrated The Loft's 3rd birthday & Christmas on the 19th. Friends all drunk and merry enjoying the good company, good music and booze on the house. Mel was the official photographer that night and I am still waiting for her to post the pictures up.

Gavin finally got the keys to his new bachelor pad and invited everyone for an early Christmas party & housewarming on the 21st. After lots of sake later, we sobered up in a flash when Sri ripped his scalp open when it slammed on the steps while he was doing a head spin. The girls rushed to his aid to try and stop the blood from gushing out of his head. There was blood everywhere. Horrific. After the nurses got the injury under control, everybody continued partying..including the injured Sri. Beside the mishap, the party was great fun. It must have been..I mean, people were dancing in the kitchen!

And ooh..here's my new toy..yay..thank you for my xmas pressie Santa!

Next day, the girls came over to my place after lunch for coffee. But Shirley turned up with vodka and coffee was left sitting in the pot. Missed the xmas dinner with Mel, Mary, Sue, Shirley KL, Caroline & Ten. Joined them at Shenanigans later that night and was fed more alcohol.

Following day was drinks at Simple & Helle's then dinner with friends at the Waterfront, and then hung out at The Loft for a bit.

Xmas eve at home. Party started at 3pm and ended just after 4am. Yanti, the xmas baby, celebrated her bday with us at midnight. Was completely knackered and couldn't even be bothered to do the washing up after the last guest left at 4.30am.

Had to get up early the next morning after having only slept for 3 hours to get ready for the island Xmas trip. More than 30 of us went to an island and had a very happy sandy Xmas. Food, booze, sun, sea, sand & frisbee..What can I say..Only in KK, man..

Dropped by at Scott & Mich's when we got back from the island and had some delicious xmas goodies. Went to my Nana's later that night and had more food. Afterwards, ended up at Gavin's for some serious boozing while playing 'ible dibble'. Forgot the time and overstayed our welcome. Our kind Irish host had a hard time getting rid of us.

Today is rest day. That pint of beer at Office Pub tonight was more than enough for me.

Tomorrow another party beckons.

I best go sleep now..

Gayana Eco Resort

Went to Gayana Eco Resort in the morning for an all-day photoshoot and filming with Scubazoo. It's for the resort's promotional use.

The villas have been refurbished and is looking very spanky. The seafood restaurant and the spa is still under construction but it's already looking pretty good. My favourite thing about the resort at the moment is the infinity pool. Beautiful.

All in a day's work

Kopi Luwak - Cat Poo Coffee

Civet cat or luwak

Luwak! Luwak!
After you've gorged,
A new taste sensation has been forged.
For all gathered here this is the scoop:
We're drinking coffee made from your poop!

-- John Martinez

The legend goes ; Civet cats (luwak) known for roaming the Indonesian archipelago have a penchant for the best coffee beans around. So they eat the beans straight from the coffee bush and, failing to digest them, pass them out in their feces intact. Kopi luwak harvesters claim the honour of collecting those beans and roasting a cup of coffee like no other. The digestive tract of the civet cat is the most unusual known incubator of coffee beans. The civet supposedly eats the reddest, ripest coffee cherries on the tree, and the beans emerge still wrapped in the cherry's mucilage.

In the last decade, the cafe-crazy have embraced coffee in all its forms, but they've saved the most expensive -- and excremental -- for last. Kopi Luwak.

Kopi Luwak, coffee beans excreted by native civet cats, is reputedly the world's rarest and most expensive coffee, painstakingly extracted by hand from the animals' forest droppings.

When roasted, the resulting beans sell for around US$1,000 a kilogram and brew into an earthy, syrupy, coffee acknowledged by connoisseurs as one of the world's finest.

"It's as good as my private life is bad. This is the kind of coffee you renounce your religion and sell your child for," one taster said.

I don't know about you, but I can't begin to understand why anyone would pay US$50 for a cup of coffee that supposedly came out of a cat's ass.

One word...Eww!

F2 Powerboat World Cup & SMC Party 1st Dec

The Breakfast Club with Ollie

Shan, Sal & I (aka. The Breakfast Club) had an early start today. Met up at The Loft at 8.30am..the earliest I've been there in a sober state.. They've been a few times when we left the pub at daylight, drinking from the night before.. Shan had her 1st beer of the day while we were having breakfast. Sal & I joined her not long after, sampling new cocktails, one after another. By 10.30 the crowd started getting bigger and busier. We were pretty much hammered by the time the trial race of the F2 World Cup Powerboat Race started.

I was in charge of selling the ice-cream but needless to say, I did not do a good job, only sold a few. I was too busy sipping cocktails and having a jolly good time. Friends started joining us and in between cocktails, socialising and taking pictures of the event, I completely lost track of time. The SMC Party hosted by Sri,Mel & Cara (hence 'SMC') started at 4pm but Suchen,Bear & I only managed to get our butts out of Loft just before 6pm. Shan & Sal came later, completely plastered. Shan sneaked out after her 45 minutes 'special appearance' so I don't have shots of her during the party.

The party dress theme was Dirty Doctors, Naughty Nurses & Mental Patients. It wasn't easy getting my nurse outfit and props in order in my drunken state (i think i had my top inside out until someone pointed it out..bikin malu!) Everyone was dressed up, it was such a hoot! I was having such a marvelous time until Ben threw me in the pool. All of a sudden I was a 'wet nurse'. lol. Everyone got thrown in the pool in the end..well, almost everyone.

All in all, had a fabulous time at the powerboat race and at the mad party. Thank you Sri, Mel & Cara!! I can still hear Emiliano going "It's the best party ever!!!"
It sure was.

It all started with a nice cuppa at CoffeeBean

Shan with her 1st beer of the day at 8.30am

Scubazoo's 'Reef' Launch at Le Meridien

The paparazzi snapping away

a gift for the guest of honour

(l-r) Roger Munns, Simon Enderby, Dtk Karim Bujang(Deputy Tourism Minister), Tengku Adlin (Sabah Tourism Chairman) & Jason Isley

'Reef ', Scubazoo's newest and most ambitious publication to date, is a 360 page coffee table book and 30 min DVD published by Dorling Kindersley (DK) and was officially launched on Tuesday 11th September 2007 in Waterstones, Piccadilly, London. It was a huge success and garnered rave reviews from all who attended including editors and journalists from magazines such as Vogue, National Geographic Kids, Cosmopolitan and Diver.

A clip from 'Reef' a 30 minute DVD included in the book

Today, the launch was held at Le Meridien , officiated by the Tourism Ministry. The launch started off with a 15 minute long presentation by the three Scubazoo members- Jason Isley, Roger Munns and Simon Enderby, followed by a speech by Deputy Tourism Minister, Datuk Karim Bujang, a Press conference and finally book signing session.

Although not as glamorous as the London launch, it was well organised and the presentation was very impressive. Echoing the sentiment of the guest of honour, the quality of the the publication and the presentation is the best I've seen and I believe everyone who attended will agree with me .

Knowing the Scubazoo family personally, I can tell you that they are very passionate in what they do and are also the most hardworking people I know . They always strive to produce only the best possible work and are superstars in their own right. As Roger mentioned during the presentation, it takes a lot of Patience, Perseverence and Passion to produce images that portrays the real behaviour of the underwater life. My hat goes off to all of them. Much respect.

'Reef' is Scubazoo's second coffee table book, the first one was 'Sipadan Mabul Kapalai-Sabah's Underwater Treasure'

Both books are available at all major bookstores. You can also purchase the books online from the Scubazoo website. Click here

I leave you with a short promo vid by Scubazoo. Enjoy.
