Day 3
8th Dec 2006
J went diving at 7am. Got up at 8 and ordered my breakfast - fried eggs layered with melted cheese, bacon and tomato on toast. Had breakfast on the verandah , looking out to the azure sea and neighbouring islands with the breeze blowing through my hair, coconut trees swaying, clear blue sky, the waves breaking at the shore…Are you jealous yet? But seriously, it's picture postcard pretty. Loving every minute of it.
It's full house at KBR since we got here, but most of the guests left today. The only guests left are the US Marines. They’re staying here while training the local coast guards. I expected them to be a rowdy bunch, but to my surprise they were quite well-behaved. So, here I am at this idyllic island resort with all these gorgeous, beefy hunks walking around. Nice eye candies for me. Not doing anything wrong by Mr Man, just enjoying the view..hihi
(ok, gotta split..it’s beer o’clock with my new buddies by the pool ;)

Manado - Day 2
Day 2
7th Dec 2006
Amazingly, I had a pretty good sleep lastnight. Normally it would take me a couple of days at least to adjust myself and get comfortable enough to sleep well in a new environment. I guess its not hard to fall asleep to the sound of waves rushing to the shore.
Opened the door to a beautiful, sunny day. Clear blue sky, breezy. Friendly resort staff greeted me as I was walking to the restaurant. Started raining while I was having my breakie. It did nothing to dampen my happy mood.
After breakfast, I went up to check my mail and chill out at the tv / library area above the restaurant which has a spectacular view of the bay and other islands. It was so relaxing that I lost track of time. Before I knew it, it was already time for lunch.
“ Mr Isley would like you to join him for lunch at the restaurant. May I take your order now, ma’am?”, asked the staff while I was staring at the water, lost in my own thoughts.
The day went by quickly. Had so much to eat for dinner..I’m definitely going to gain weight here. yay!
Smiled all the way back to our beautiful chalet by the beach, under the moonlit sky, on a starry, starry night..A very happy bunny indeed.

Manado - Day 1
Day 1
6th Dec 2006
It was a 3hr flight from Singapore to Manado. We arrived at Manado airport at about 2pm. Jim & Cary was there to give us a nice, warm welcome. They run Eco-Divers, which runs Kungkungan Bay Resort & Tasik Ria Resort.
The drive from the airport to Kungkungan Bay Resort (KBR) took approximately 1 ½ hours. Passed by lots of churches and neat wood frame houses, with picket fences and flower gardens. As the driver drove down the hill to Kungkungan Bay Resort, this was my first glimpse of KBR..
All I could manage to say for the next half an hour was ‘Wow!!’, over and over again. :D
Had dinner with Steve & Miranda , the managers of the resort, Kevin Haigh, owner of Red Sea Images, Caroline (who runs Tasik Ria Resort with her husband, Bjorn), her cute baby boy, Moi and a Swedish guest, Anika.
Dinner was sashimi, tom yam kuung and Minahasan chicken curry. Simply delicious.
Kevin shared some underwater photos that he’s taken on this trip. They were amazing, especially the ones of the flamboyant cuttlefish hatching from its egg. Amazing colours.
Knackered by 10pm, we headed back to our chalet. Can’t wait to explore the resort in the morning.

Hello Manado!
So, here I am, finally. Manado. And it’s absolutely gorgeous!!! ‘Where?’, you say? That’s what friends & family said when I told them where I was going. Few people know about this beautiful place or are fortunate enough, as I am, to visit. Let’s give you a little run down on Manado…
Manado
Manado city is the provincial capital of North Sulawesi, Indonesia.. The Island of Sulawesi, previously known as Celebes, lies like an orchid shaped island in the pearl chain of the Indonesian archipelago. The next tourism city by 2010. Manado itself dominant by Minahasan ethnicity which most of them came from nearby region called Minahasa & Tomohon. Manado itself known as "The twelfh Province of Netherland" with majority Christians. 'Dutch in Minahasa & Manado' is the starting point for exploration of the Minahasa region's many attractions.
One of the most western oriented people in Indonesia, the Minahasa, are Christians and friendly people. Their first contact with Europeans was with the arrival of Spanish and Portuguese spice traders. However it wasn't till the Dutch landed on their shores that they became totally Christianised. Dutch influence grew subduing indigenous traditions. "Minahasa" refers to the confederacy of tribes and existing monuments bear evidence to the ancient system of tribes and clans. Fun-loving and extroverted, the Minahasa people live in neat wood frame houses, with fences and flower gardens, giving Manado a European feel.
There is a wide range of hotels and restaurants. Those with an adventurous palate should try the famously hot and spicy Minahasa cuisine. The Minahasan curry is scrumptious! Very much to my liking. The city's numerous shops and markets are filled with an abundance of consumer goods and agricultural produce, while behind every building are glimpses of emerald hills and azure sea.
Inland from Manado, a trip through the Minahasa Highlands will take you to intriguing prehistoric above-ground burial sites, volcanoes, hot springs, the highland lake Tondano and breathtaking panoramas of lush mountains, coffee and coconut plantations, orchid gardens and terraced hillsides. From Manado, also be sure to visit the Dua Saudara Nature Reserve, home to birds and other wildlife unique to Sulawesi, such as the Tarsier - the smallest monkey, cus cus, Hornbill etc.
Getting to Manado, North Sulawesi
Manado ( North Sulawesi ) is an accessible capital city, reachable via international flights from Singapore / Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Philippines (DAVAO) and domestic daily flights from Jakarta, Surabaya, Balikpapan and Bali.
I am staying at the beautiful Kungkungan Bay Resort. Fell in love with it at first sight. Life is so good to me…
Our home :D
A little bit on my home for the next 2 weeks… :D
Kungkungan Bay Resort (KBR)
Kungkungan Bay Resort is a renowned upscale dive resort set in a large bay on the protected side of the beautiful tropical island of North Sulawesi. Kungkungan Bay is a part of the world famous Lembeh Strait which in the last few years has become the premier macro and critter diving destination in the world.
In harmony with the surrounding nature, Kungkungan Bay Resort, or just 'KBR' to its many fans, is built on a former coconut plantation. Kungkungan faces the Lembeh Strait and guests dining in the over-the-water restaurant have an unfettered view of this unique and peaceful setting.
Facilities at KBR include a private jetty with camera rinse tanks and hot showers, swimming pool with swim-up bar, lounge, internet access ( even by the beach!) and lending library. Restaurant service is available 24-hours of every day. Currently under construction, the resort’s facilities will be enhanced with the opening of a health spa to cater to your every need from traditional massage to coiffeur treatments or sauna.

If U Don't Know Me By Now..
Classes, parties, travels, charity work, potion brewing, drama, drama, drama.. and after countless bottles of white wine later… here I am… Still alive..kicking & screaming.
Been doing some yoga & pilates. One time, I nearly injured / killed myself when I lost my balance on the exercise ball and fell backwards head first and slammed on the glass door. Could have easily broken my neck.Stayed away from the ball since. Phewwh..nice one Mona. 8 lives to go. No.. actually, 3 lives to go. Jason has taken away most of them. I’m lucky I’m still alive after all the car crashes. The worst thing about it all, he has no recollection of most of the accidents. I am traumatized, scarred for life..and he doesn’t even remember a thing. Lovely.
Still attempting to finish Shantaram. It’s taking me forever.. Sorry dear Max..I shall return it as soon as I’m done..perhaps next year. Lol. Just borrowed Life of Pi from Matt last Sunday..yes, yes,I will finish Shantaram first before starting on yet another book. I've got about 4 other books on my bedside table that I have yet to finish reading.
I’ve joined the YMCA Deaf Club as a Friend of the Deaf (FOD), a couple of months ago, to help them organize fund-raising events / activities. I’ve also taken up Sign Language Course so that I could communicate with the club members. It’s been a lot of fun and even more so that I have PJ, Caroline & Avril learning the language with me. We’ve still got a lot to learn but we can basically spell any word and communicate a bit in signs now. Last night we had a dinner / gathering with members of the deaf club. It was our first experience communicating with the members, other than our teacher, Spancer. It was an enjoyable experience for me. I’m sure PJ & Carol felt the same. Sorry you couldn’t make it, Avril.
The club members are beautiful people. And they really appreciate us ( hearing people) making an effort to learn their language to communicate with them and get to know them better. Planning a fund-raising carnival & futsal tournament for them at KK Futsal in January 2007 with Scott Ollerenshaw’s help.
Been going down to the The Office pub quite a bit. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, cheap booze & yummy pub grub. Good times..But if you see Uncle Boy around and he starts ordering the tequilas..u better run & hide..quick!!

Before I Was Myself, You Made Me, Me
Before I was myself you made me, me
With love and patience, discipline and tears,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,
Allowing me to sail upon my sea,
Though well within the headlands of your fears.
Before I was myself you made me, me
With dreams enough of what I was to be
And hopes that would be sculpted by the years,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,
Relinquishing your powers gradually
To let me shape myself among my peers.
Before I was myself you made me, me,
And being good and wise, you gracefully
As dancers when the last sweet cadence nears
Bit by bit stepped back to set me free.
For love inspires learning naturally:
The mind assents to what the heart reveres.
And so it was through love you made me, me
By slowly stepping back to set me free.
For you mom, with all my love..Happy Birthday xxx

Things Every Drunkard Should Do Before He Dies
got this list off a drunkard mag, i only improvised it a lil bit..honest..
A man is,
ultimately, the sum of his accomplishments.
If you manage all before you take a barstool at St. Gabriel’s Pearly Gate Lounge, you may feel secure in the fact that you’ve lived a rich and full life, even if only the boys and girls down at happy hour think so. And when you do belly up to that big open bar in the sky and the bartender asks: “What sort of life did you lead?” you can look him right in the eye and say, “Gabe, baby, I’m glad this is eternity, because I’ve got a helluva lot of stories to tell.”
1.) Open and close a bar.Find one that opens its doors before noon. Stake out a comfortable seat and hunker down. Resist informing the bartender of your tremendous plan, as this will cause him to pour waves of pre-celebratory shots and you won’t survive happy hour. Pacing is everything. Watch the crowds come and go, watch bartenders rise, reign and fade . From that day forward, within the walls of that bar at least, your name will be legend.
* Done. Cottage, Loft, Uno..hmm..where else?? Feel free to add, Mel & PJ ?
2.) Go on a bender.Dangerous, yes, but so is getting out of bed in the morning. It won’t be easy. You must start drinking the moment you wake up and carry on until you go under. Then start over again. In your grandfather’s day you had to drink two weeks straight before you could officially declare yourself on a proper jag, but that’s when a mug of beer cost a nickel. These days four straight days and nights will give you all the bragging rights you need.
* Done. Kaamatan Festival..Aramaitiiiiiiii !!!!!!
3.) Dance like a fool in front of a large hooting crowd.Cast aside your fear of public opinion, march to the center of the room’s attention and boogie down. You don’t need a partner, you don’t even need music, do a happy jig to the beat of your own drum. Of course, it helps to be really really drunk.
* Done and proud of it.
4.) Get drunk on the grave of your hero. Wait until the cemetery closes for the night, then slip over the fence with a bottle of something strong. Prop your back against the gravestone and tell your hero how much he inspired you, how he changed your life, revel in the fact that your inspiration is only six feet of hard-packed earth away. It’ll be the greatest one-sided conversation you’ll ever have. Then pass out. Let the groundskeeper be your alarm clock.
* Hmm..have to go to Paris, get hammered and look for Jim Morrison's grave..
5.) Buy a crowded bar a round. For no reason at all. Jump up on a barstool and shout it loud: “A round for the house! On me!” Make sure you have a good toast ready, because, for once, they’ll all be listening.
* Nope. Hope I never do. Or have I ? hmmm...
6.) Extravagantly overtip a bartender. The next time a bartender is especially kind or proficient, lay a massive tip on him. I mean, massive. You must be relatively sober or they’ll discount the act as drunken foolishness. Say something smooth like, “You’re the best of your kind,” drop the bomb, and—this is important—walk out of the bar without another word. With this single act of unexpected generosity, you will restore a bartender’s faith in humanity and give your own self-image a healthy boost.
* Done. Loads of free booze from the darling bartender after that night. ;)
7.) Buy, build or steal a home bar.Put the well right in your home. Outfit it with many sparkling bottles, accruement and tools. Sit on your barstool with a grossly over-poured cocktail and think: “This is my bar. No one can cut me off, no one can kick me out, none but the floor can announce last call.” You’ve been a sharecropper long enough. Get your own plot of land.
* Done. But the bar is currently under-stocked..thanks to all my drinking buddies.
8.) Get carried home by your drinking buddies. In the company of friends you can trust, get fantastically loaded to the point you cannot stand, nevermind walk. Let them brace you from both sides and carry you homeward. Sing like an Irish uncle. Swear love and fealty to your human crutches. These are the bonds that never break.
* Done. Thank you to all my human crutches a.k.a. my loyal subjects..esp the sweet PJ ;) Love ya.
9.) Get drunk with your father/mother.Getting loaded with the man/woman who brought you into this world is one of the most deeply mystical experiences a human being can manage. If you can’t get your father/mother to commit, find an elder you respect.
* Done and done. How lucky am I & Mel..lol
10.) Visit the source of your favorite beer, wine or liquor. Make a pilgrimage to the headwaters. Follow the river that’s fed you joy to its source. Stand amongst the vats and barrels and absorb the knowledge that this is the spring from which the good times flow. Drink as many free samples as they’ll give you. It might mean a trip to Dublin or Tennessee, but from that moment on you can gaze into your glass and think, “Lad, I met your mother.”
* On the top of my list of things to do.
11.) Drunkenly watch the sun come up with your best boozing buddies and a bottle. You’ve spent plenty of time railing against the dying of the light, this time welcome its birth. With a shot.
* Done. Done. Done.
12.) Sit in on an A.A. meeting. Not all accomplishments are rum and games. File this under the heading of facing your fears. Just as Jonah found enlightenment in the belly of a beast, so will you. You may come to look at it as a sober examination of the safety net. You may view it as a cautionary trip to hell. Either way, you’ll never have to wonder again.
* Nope. Did you guys know that there's an A.A. in KK now? Who wants to join me on this one? Anybody??
13.) Hit a dozen bars in one night.Make like Marco Polo. Instead of eating one lousy apple, take a bite out of a dozen exotic fruits. Chase the ever elusive good time. A rolling stone gathers no bar tabs.
* Of course lah..done. KL, Phuket, Bali, London..easily accomplished. But in KK..hmm..I salute those who have..
14.) Juice on the job.You will never comprehend just how pleasurable the workaday grind can be until you bring your old chum alcohol along. You don’t have to get boss-punching drunk, just sneak enough to loosen up that tight harness. It’ll make you wish you worked for a drinking magazine.
* Done. Easy when you're running a bar..heaven..
15.) Get loaded and tell your boss exactly how you feel.It could go down at the company picnic, the Christmas party, or maybe, if you’re really going after Accomplishment #14, right at the office. It’s tremendously cathartic. Years of stress and bitterness will drop from your shoulders and for the first time, after you’re done unloading, you will see your employer as an actual human being. You may very well get fired, but hey, if you’re angry enough to go berserk on your boss, you need to get a new job anyway.
*Done. And got a raise. lol. Seriously.
16.) Send a friend a bottle of good liquor.Don’t tell him/her it’s coming. Attach a card reading: “Tonight the drinks are on me.” He/she will never forget it. There is no better feeling than unexpected free booze.
* Done. Friend well pleased.
17.) Learn at least one traditional drinking song. There’s nothing like a table of drunks bellowing an unidentifiable song in unison to scare the bejesus out of the bar staff. eg. Apa guna si Mona, apa guna si Mona, kalau tidak pandai moginum!!?? repeat till Mona drinks to the last drop..
*countless times..lol
18.) Steal some booze. Against the law? Sure. A hell of a rush? Absolutely. Of course, not getting caught is very important. Plan well. Nothing tastes quite so sweet.
* err..done..muahahahahha..
19.) Try absinthe. Do the full ritual with the spoon and sugar. Drink enough to feel the full effect. Stroll the path that Hemingway, Van Gogh, Degas, F. Scott, and myriad other geniuses spent their lives pounding flat. Just don’t cut your ear off.
* of course..it's yummy..and lethal..word of advise, ONLY try this at home, or at a friend's..oh! f**k it! just f**king try it! it's gooooood...
20.) Work at least a week as a bartender. You’ll never fully understand the drinking culture as a whole until you’ve spent some time on the supply side of the wood. The empathy it will lever into your psyche will change your bar behavior forever.
* Done..after 2 years of it, it hasn't changed my bar behavior at all..
21) Drink tapai . You are not a 'true drunkard' until you've tried tapai. Come to Sabah, Land of the Tapai..the lovely people of Sabah will not let you leave the state until they have forced you down on the tapai jar, again..and again..and again.. One warning..after drinking tapai you may believe that you can fly like an eagle.
* Done. Aramaitiiii..!!! I miss my 'tapai' drinking buddy..Mae!! Mana kau!! hehe..
22.) Make your own beer, wine or moonshine. There are fewer finer feelings in the world than to nurture booze from it’s humble, evil-tasting origins to something you can get hammered on. Just expect to repeat these words over and over again when you go mad on the blood of your creation: “I made this! Me! And now I’m drinking it! Woo-hoo!”
* In the process..who wants to be my guinea-pig? lol
Well..boys & girls..you're encouraged to add to the list..(c'mon Shan, you know you want to..)
okay..i'm off..time to brew my poison..
A man is,
ultimately, the sum of his accomplishments.

* Done. Done. Done.
* Done. Easy when you're running a bar..heaven..
* Done. Friend well pleased.
* err..done..muahahahahha..

The Finale
After celebrating my 3oth since last month, I was really looking forward to 'The Finale"..the final party. It was held at The Office. Mel ( u da best !), Steve, Uncle Boy, Avril & all the staff at The Office..thank you for such a great party. And thank you Mr Man..ain't no other man like you ;) I had so much fun!! Got plastered before midnight. Can't believe it myself..lol. Mr Man carried me out of the pub at midnight, me all giggly and silly..and hanging on to him like a child..or so I was told..no recollection whatsoever...I can only remember up to my 5th shot of lemondrop (after countless glasses of white wine) , sitting on the bar top , thinking it was a throne, telling wild stories to my loyal subjects..lol..
I hope I didn't make anyone kiss me on my hands and toes again like I did last week..I blame you Uncle Boy.. you're lucky I still adore you ;)
I had a great time, that i know for sure.. Thank you all...Adieu..The Party Queen will rest now..

Ruby Tuesday
just heard this song today..i like
Ruby Tuesday
by The Rolling Stones
She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don't matter if it's gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows, she comes and goes
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you
Don't question why she needs to be so free
She'll tell you it's the only way to be
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothing's lost, at such a cost
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you
"There's no time to lose", I heard her say
Catch your dreams before they slip away
Dying all the time
Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind
Ain't life unkind?
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you

KK~ Entertainment~ Where to go? What to do?
It's Wednesday. Everyone's been trying to make plans for the evening. First it was supposed to be to the movies (Pirates of The Caribbean) tonite. Then, it was postponed to tmoro-can't get seats together for everyone. Muffin suggested 'karaoke'..hehe. But not really up for it, still coughing like mad. So where does one go on a Wednesday night in lovely lil' KK?
Hmm..we've got a few choices..
1. The Loft
A British theme bar at the Waterfront, where everybody knows my name.*grins* It's a great place to hang out with friends, over a game of pool or just catching up. Spent most of my time here during the World Cup Season. A great place to start the nite. Had many a drunken, crazy nights here with the usual suspects. It's more of a second home to most of us. We could do anything and i mean ANYTHING our heart desire at this lovely bar. Love the atmosphere, love the company, good quality booze, great music, great service, friendly staff, and what else..oh yes! You could order food from any other restaurants around the area and have it there. My friends own this bar, it makes it even so much more inviting. ;) Well done, Sal & Colin.
2. Cock & Bull
Another pub at the Waterfront. Always busy and lively. I hardly go this one tho. Just can't get comfortable there for some reasons. It's more of an Old Boy's Pub.
3. BED
A huge club at the Waterfront with a live-band playing daily, except on Mondays. I heard the current band is good. Must make a point to check them out soon. I only go to this one when they've got a special event going on.
Typical pick-up line heard at the Waterfront. "Hi..Wanna go to BED with me?"
4. Cocoon
I like it here. Nice atmosphere, cool decor and lay-out. The band Headhunters play live daily except for Sundays. They're great. Love the songs they play.(esp. 'Lately' *winks for Muffin*). Friendly staff and nice snacks. They've also got a restaurant outside the bar. It's Ladies Nite here tonight. Free booze for the ladies 9-11pm. Right opposite Shenanigans.
5. Upperstar
Hardly go to this one but it's not bad at all. Beers cheap, foods good, the crowd is a mix of teenagers, good drinkers (men stressed from work*) and tourists. They say it's a good place to start off with before ending up in Cocoon or Shenanigans.
6. Shenanigans
Simply 'The Place To Be'. Its been a popular spot since day 1. It's at the Hyatt. Always have good bands playing live daily except Sundays. Today is Ladies Nite here. But there's no free booze I don't think. It's the place to go to check out on the eye-candies. Plus,DJ Saiful always spins the best music. Best to go with a bunch of people and get silly on the dance floor.:)
7. Blue Note
This one's at STAR. I love to hang out here. Very chilled out, relaxing, great bands, great music, huge dance floor, pool tables, good wine. Can't ask for more really. Plus I get lots of discounts here for being an Orion member. I might go there tonight.
8. QBar
A nice lil' bar with happy gay people all around. They play cool music here. A great place for the girls to party and go all wild cos none of the the guys here would bother them.
There's countless other bars..some I don't even dare step foot into..we can go over them later..when I have nothing better to do..
It's time to shower and get ready...

Wish I was still at the festival..
Wish i was still at the festival..*sigh* Wanted to post an entry as soon as I landed home but was too knackered. Then the next day, I got fever + cold + cough. Was bedridden for almost 3 days. Had such a whale of a time at the festival. It was amazing. Thousands of people all enjoying and moving to the same music in the middle of the rainforest. An unforgettable experience..and yes, so surreal, wasn't it Muffin? It was damn hot!!! And so was the weather *winks* He he!! Met some really nice people while I was there. Some are already now becoming quite dear to me :-) Great place, fantastic music, beautiful people, booze...it could NOT have been better..
